Intellectual Property
Mayer Brown features one of the country’s leading intellectual property appellate practices. We have participated in every significant intellectual property matter at the Supreme Court over the past several terms, either as party counsel or representing amici curiae. We obtained certiorari and then prevailed in Mayo Collaborative Services v. Prometheus Labs. (U.S. Supreme Court), an important case concerning the limits of Section 101. And we argued Hana Financial v. Hana Bank (U.S. Supreme Court), the Court’s first trademark case in over a decade.
Mayer Brown’s appellate group also maintains an active practice before the Federal Circuit. We recently won an important victory in buySAFE, Inc. v. Google, Inc. (Federal Circuit), which applied Section 101 to software patents. And in addition to handling patent appeals from the district court, we routinely represent parties on appeal from the International Trade Commission. More generally, we handle trade secret, trademark, copyright, and other IP matters in appellate courts throughout the country.
